Spanish Interpreters Needed for Families in Orlando

JR Language Blog

In the wake of tragedy, the need for reliable communication is more urgent than ever. At JR Language Translations, not only does our line of work connect us to the Spanish-speaking community but we have among our staff a group of Spanish translators who come from Venezuela and Puerto Rico. The tragedy in Orlando feels very close to our hearts, and the effect it has had on the Hispanic and Latino communities reminds us of the important role language has in helping those who are struggling to heal- both emotionally and physically.

Families of those affected by the mass shooting at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub are doing their best to survive the aftermath of the tragedy. A call for donations and volunteers has brought about some much-needed aid. There is, however another urgently needed resource- Spanish interpreters and Spanish translators. Most of the victims came from Spanish-speaking countries including Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and Mexico and many of them have friends and relatives who do not speak or understand English. It is heartbreaking to imagine the many people who were waiting in a hotel in Downtown Orlando last Monday, anxious for news of their loved ones and feeling so confused at the same time.

To ease the turmoil and inform affected families, the President of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Metro Orlando, Diana Bolivar, is seeking professional Spanish translators for those impacted by the tragedy. The affected families will need Spanish phone interpreters to assist in counseling helplines. Young children will need to be qualified, Spanish speakers to have a conversation about the violence if their parents request it. These important tasks and more are best delivered by certified Spanish interpreters who are skilled in both English and Spanish, and more importantly- experienced in working under emotional, difficult situations.

Beyond Spanish interpretation, families may also need Spanish translators who are qualified to translate documents from English to Spanish. Press release translation will be beneficial to families in the event of breaking news. Of special priority, is the need for Puerto Rican Spanish translation as nearly half of the victims were Puerto Rican who migrated to the U.S.

JR Language Translation Agency operates based on our passion for culture and values of respect and ethics. Our hearts go out to all who are affected by this tragedy, and we sincerely hope that all families are provided the best English to Spanish translation and interpretation services possible. In the midst of difficulty, helping these families to understand what is going on around them is the beginning of their healing process.
