Our Hearts are With Those Impacted by Hurricanes

jrlanguage thoughts with storm victims

Last updated on November 30th, 2017 at 01:27 pm

In recent weeks, hurricanes have inflicted significant damage throughout the states of Texas and Florida, and in regions abroad including Puerto Rico, Cuba and Barbuda.  These damaging storms have had a devastating impact on families and residents of these regions, many of whom have lost their homes.

In cities like Houston and Miami, there is a significant population of residents in need who are non-native English speakers.  These residents are especially vulnerable during these times because of the language and cultural barrier, which could greatly limit their access to critical services.

In the aftermath of a disaster, clear communication and understanding with the person you are trying to help are critical.  Individuals who are limited English proficient require language assistance in order to have access to the resources they need to aid them during storm recovery.  Language assistance for LEP individuals come in the form of phone interpretation, in-person interpretation, document translation and website translation.

During these last few weeks, we have delivered translations of content created for the purpose of helping hurricane victims. As they begin the road to recovery, JR Language will continue to do our part in making sure that all individuals affected by the storms have access to resources that are available to help them on that journey, no matter their native language.    It is both our responsibility and privilege to serve a role in making critical resources and content accessible to LEP individuals.

In the past, we have developed Video voice-over work for the Florida Department of Health’s Bureau of Preparedness and Response. We are sure our work in Spanish and Haitian Creole made a difference and was helpful during these trying times.

We are blessed to be working with our team of gifted and hardworking professional translators and interpreters to help and support government agencies and businesses with translation services in the required languages. They have helped our translation company deliver translation services targeted towards assisting families and residents in need during past storm recovery efforts.  Many of our translators and clients also live in storm-impacted regions.  Beyond this, we know that several of our clients and translators have close relatives and friends who have been impacted by the storms as well.  Our thoughts are with them as they recover.

We also send our support to the people of Mexico, who are also recovering from the devastating effects of the earthquake on September 19th. We also have family members there and know that this is a trying time for Mexico. It is great to see the collaboration and support pouring from different areas and countries to aid people in need.

Our prayers are with all who have been affected.  We are just a phone call or email away for individuals and organizations who are seeking language translation services to help LEP individuals attain the resources they need to recover and move forward.  If you are looking for ways to help, please consider these resources:
