At JR Language, we think of ourselves as more than a Translation Company. We are that connection that plays a critical role in bringing individuals of all walks of life, and nationalities together to achieve a common goal. Whether these goals are to emigrate to a different country to start a family, career, or study, or to bring a company’s products and services to new markets, the common goal of language translation is to bring people together by helping them understand each other in their native language.
We’re always keeping our eyes open for culture and language related media to share with our clients. These media pieces inspire us and further motivate us to become better in delivering our translation services. At the very least, media that conveys the power of language reaffirms to us how important our services are.
During the airing of the Super Bowl LIII, an ad titled “100 Billion Words” was aired. Many watch the Super Bowl for the ads as well as the game and commercials are replayed on the Internet and discussed. We know the Budweiser Clydesdales and Coca-Cola polar bears through Super Bowl commercials. This year there was an ad focused on Google Translate, which is Google’s 12 year old machine translation service.
The ad features a series of vignettes of groups of people from around the world communicating with the help of Google translate. A woman teaches a man to play a musical instrument with the help of the app, a young man uses the app to thank a woman for her help, and two individuals of different ethnicity link arms and laugh during a stroll. The ad also reminds us that while some words come from a place of negativity, much more often we translate words of gratitude.
In a world where differences can be met with fear and hesitation, this ad teaches us that our cultural and linguistic differences can be used to bring us together if only we’d take even just a few seconds to understand each other. In the age of the Internet, this bond is becoming a common one between companies and global customers through use of website translation and localization. Through professional video translation, subtitling and voiceover, the power of video engages individuals around the world through purposes of entertainment, educating, and sometimes to save a life during an emergency.
The JR Language team is composed of people who have close links to different regions of the world including Taiwan, Venezuela and Puerto Rico. Everyone on the team is a lover of language, and cares deeply for our mission to bridging language barriers to help individuals and businesses collaborate on an international scale. The heartfelt emotions conveyed through Google’s ad reflects how we feel about our job as a Translation Company, and the visuals featured in the ad is a large part of what we envision during our daily work. It is heartening to see a widely broadcasted ad spreading the message of unity through language, and we hope to carry this message through our translation services.
